[Manabu gets up and heads over to the door to get his boots on and lace them up.]

Oh, I also wanted to ask if you got anything from that city. The one a ways out from the Outpost?

Just some books and things. Figured it might save another trip out there one day.

[siriusly]

[laced up and ready to go, Manabu opens the door and receives an indignant bark from his omen, who he had accidentally locked out of the house on his way in. oops.]

A couple people I talked to said they couldn't really make anything out of the texts...what about you? [maybe special demon comprehension counts for more...]

Well, I can read human languages just fine. Mortal ones, I guess - we'd have a hell of a time if we couldn't, you guys change them all around so often...

[There's not much Michael has to do to get ready, he'll just get his shoes on before coming to join Manabu.]

So most of them are fine! But there's a few that are specifically enchanted so you can't use magical translation, I can't read those ones. Had to just work on translating them like everyone else.

Did...did anything useful come out of it? [man he hopes so.]

Yeah, actually. Got a ritual we think will calm all this shit down.

[blink.] You mean...with what's gone down with the Tower and stuff?

Yeah, turns out there's a lot of weird dolls involved.

Dolls. [his eyes wince as he starts down the street.] Like...children's dolls?

Huh? [genuine confusion paints his expression.] I've...never heard of something like that.

It's a thing some humans do. Doesn't actually work, when they do it back in my world, but I guess it makes sense that they could get it working here.

[siriusly]

[grimacing:] Does it? I mean...is...it doesn't sound like a great idea to me...

Oh - Ritelor does the dolls. We're not doing the dolls. They're creepy!

[siriusly]

[he turns at the block corner, doing a bit of a double-take at Michael.] We're doing this with that guy? The, the rogue Pthumerian?

We're doing the ritual to make him stop doing his creepy doll thing.

That...I think that sounds a lot better now. Wait -- we're fighting a Pthumerian?

Fighting might be a strong term. I think we'll probably have a bad time if he decides to show up in person.

[siriusly]

[he sighs.]

Fighting just can't be straightforward here... [and that's a bummer for idiots like him.] Aa--there. That one. [they've gone far enough that the house is in view - Manabu points it out.] So not too bad. Five, ten minutes' walk? Lamp nearby and everything.

Yeah, that's handy! Looks like a nice place. Sturdy enough.

[Hopefully, anyway? You know how this place can be.]

Mn! [he perks up, planting his hands on his hips.] It should work out good, I think. The kid wants to try his hand at gardening, so he's got a fair amount of room for that.

And this way...there's more space for you guys. Especially if Amara comes back. [because ain't no way he was going to encroach on her stuff.]

[Michael sounds both doubtful and a little dispirited by this!]
