I'll admit I haven't always kept a very close eye on history.

This place, some human ones. It isn't perfect but there are similarities. And it does so like to remind us of our own faults.

I'm a lot more versed on more recent Earth history. There were periods when I was working on other things in the past.

And how recent is that?

Mid-twentieth century on, I'd say.

What else were you working on?

Oh, just work stuff.

How predictable.
Did you study all history of the mid-twentieth century onwards?

Only the bits that seemed like they could be relevant.
Mostly Senegalese history, to be honest.
You don't pick up as much about that.

Is that the only reason?

We aren't really allowed to do anything unrelated to work.
Have to fill out that timesheet, you know?

No one is ever that singularly dedicated to what they do.

We don't have anything else.
No families or homes or hobbies.
Sure, people skiv off here and there, but you've gotta be careful about stuff like that.
It's risky.

Besides, I'd been gunning for promotion for a long time. I thought I had something to prove.

I moved on from that a few years ago.
I'm in management somewhere else now.


Well, not now. NOW I'm bartending.

Yeah. Easy job to get right when you arrive, and it's fun!

No job here is difficult to get. They don't ask for experience.
